For 25 years, John Polkinghorne was a theoretical physicist working on theories of elementary particles and played a significant role in the discovery of quarks. From 1968 to 1979 he was Professor of Mathematical Physics at Cambridge. He resigned his professorial chair and was ordained in the Church of England in 1982. From 1984 to 1986 he was vicar of Blean, and since retirement in 1995 he has been Canon Theologian of Liverpool Cathedral. He has written a number of books on science and religion. |
